Over the Edge Designs is a cottage industry located in Central Georgia, USA, dedicated to the creation of the finest in handmade tarot bags, rune bags, and spreadcloths. It started as a natural extension of my own fascination with all aspects of tarot and runes. Whether one is a reader, a collector, a student of the historical or esoteric aspects of these oracles, or some combination of all of these, one's cards and runes are treasured friends, to be treated with the utmost care and respect. My goal is to create bags, and spreadcloths which are suitable for both tarot and rune use - and, just as importantly, are artistically and aesthetically appealing in their own right, and which will add to my customers' enjoyment of their oracles.
Because tarot, especially, is an intensely visual medium, the tarot experience is enhanced by surrounding one's cards with beautiful tarot bags and spreadcloths, sometimes called lay cloths, or reading cloths.
Runes are traditionally stored in, and sometimes drawn from, special rune bags, and then cast - or spread - upon a spreadcloth or casting cloth which delineates a sacred space for the reading.
Serious tarot collectors who have numerous decks often find it helpful to be able to identify the deck by the fabric of the bag!

All of my tarot/runes bags and spreadcloths are hand-crafted from fabrics which are especially selected for their beauty and, in many cases, the symbolic or mystic nature of the fabric pattern. In keeping with tarot and magickal traditions, I use only 100% natural fibers, such as cotton, silk, or linen. Although most of my products would be appropriate for use with any tarot deck, oracle deck, or rune set, many fabrics are chosen with particular decks in mind, like the "Renaissance" bag (shown left), which was designed for The Renaissance Tarot. |
| Each tarot/runes bag measures 5 inches wide by 7-1/2 inches tall, making it large enough for all "standard" and many oversized tarot and oracles decks. My bags close with an elegant and durable miniature robe drawstring in a color chosen to complement the fabric. My spreadcloths measure 25 by 25 inches square. Because I use only natural-fiber fabrics, my tarot bags and spreadcloths can be gently handwashed to keep them in beautiful condition for years of use. |

I take pride in careful construction. For instance, all seams on my bags are finished by pinking or overcasting. I never use fabric glues or "stiffeners" to finish raw edges. Stress points, such as corners and drawstring openings, are double-stitched for extra strength and durability. I am diligent about straight stitching, and no raw edges or loose threads are ever left to ravel on an Over the Edge Designs creation! The corners on my spreadcloths are mitered, not straight-hemmed, for an especially elegant look. Each bag and spreadcloth I produce is zealously inspected at the time of completion, to make sure that it is one which I would be proud to use myself. If it doesn't meet that standard, it doesn't leave my Shoppe! |
